Blog Tour! True by Erin McCarthy

New Adult is an increasingly popular genre, and I am thrilled to be a part of the TRUE blog tour! Erin McCarthy’s TRUE is a fantastic story about a bookish college student who attracts the attention of the smoldering bad boy. Their unlikely union develops into a relationship that suits both of their needs and reveals each individual’s hidden strengths and vulnerabilities. If you are looking to get into New Adult, I highly suggest TRUE! I recently read a great interview with Erin on USA Today and am excited to read more of her work!

Erin McCarthy, the author of TRUE, was kind enough to share some of her favorite and most challenging scenes in the book to write.
What was your favorite scene to write and why?
When Tyler takes Rory to his house for the first time and then is so embarrassed by what she has seen.  We see the vulnerable side of him for the first time and I hope readers fall for him the way I did in that moment.

What was the most difficult scene to write?
It was actually one of the easiest books to write in my career… it just poured out.  But writing about Rory’s reaction to their breakup was hard because we all know that terrible emptiness you feel when you’ve lost someone.  Walking around alone in the cold was actually something I did when I was getting divorced and it was the most painful point of my life, so I felt for Rory.

What is the most romantic scene in the book (without spoilers!)?
Without spoilers is tough!  I’m going to say in the snow and we’ll learn it at that.

Erin McCarthy is the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of more than 40 novels and novellas in the paranormal, contemporary romance, and young adult genres.  The author is a RITA award finalist and an American Library Association winner of the Reluctant Young Reader award.  She lives with her family in Ohio. Check out Erin’s website, follow her on Twitter or Facebook, and take a peek at her Goodreads page!

Be sure to follow InterMix Books and Berkley Romance for great book discussions and reading recommendations!

Thanks, Erin, for stopping by and for writing such a great book!

Readers, have you read any New Adult books?

Just Little Things by Nancy Vu

Publisher: Perigee Trade
Publication Date: May 7th 2013
Rating: I really liked it!
Seeing a baby yawn

Drawing on a foggy window

Finding a curly fry mixed in with your regular fries

These and 247 other little things that make everyday life a joy are collected in this delightful, surprising, and heartfelt book. Based on the popular website, this book will strike a chord in anyone who is open to celebrating the little moments of greatness all around us.

When I first heard of Nancy Vu’s Just Little Things, I was charmed by the simplicity of the creation. Simple items presented on colored paper do not normally strike people’s curiosity, but there is something unique about the sweet presentation. Nancy provides readers with little pleasures that make life enjoyable and full of wonder.

In the past few weeks, I have been using Just Little Things as a springboard for creativity. As an aspiring writer, I am always on the hunt for new ideas. Nancy’s book is perfect for helping me to recall how certain events make me feel or allowing me to remember a simple pleasure.

My favorite pleasure listed in the book is “Perfectly peeling off a price sticker.” The triumph I feel when the price sticker is smoothly removed is a fleeting emotion, but I always smile and cheer for myself when it happens. The book is full of little acts and events that will trigger memories. I spent an enjoyable afternoon flipping through the pages and recalling memories that were associated with the listed items.

I really enjoyed this treasure. On the surface, it is simple and may seem unusual to some readers. I urge you to give it a chance, though. There is a hidden beauty in allowing ourselves to become more mindful of the simple pleasures in life. My experiences with this book have been positive, relaxing, and pleasurable. If you want a tool to help you slow down and to appreciate the simple events in life that make us happy, then I strongly urge you to pick up a copy of Just Little Things.
